The Kilifi County Department of Health has come a long way in improving its health care services and over the years, it has managed to accomplished many projects with the goal of providing Kilifi people with Accessible and Affordable health care services.
The Kilifi County Health Department is making significant strides in improving public health and sanitation. Key initiatives include the Kenya Sanitation Enabling Environment Project (KSEEP), which aims to eliminate Open Defecation by 2024 through comprehensive community training and increased access to sanitation facilities. The department is also actively involved in distributing mosquito nets and promoting hygiene to enhance overall community health.
In addition, the Kilifi County Public Service Board has recently signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives, which focuses on improving nurses’ working conditions, salaries, and professional development.

Activities supported by MTG: –

  • Recruitment and training of peer educators using Peer education sessions at the communities using football drills.
  • Recruitment and training of Youth Peer Providers Contraceptives distribution
  • Young mother’s program- These are young mothers below 18 years who are engaged in psychosocial sessions including counseling at the facility level.

Activities supported by PLAN International

  • Conducted parenting and adolescent life skills sessions training to reach 290 people
  • Distributed menstrual health education and dignity kits to 3400 girls and 801 boys
  • Plan International commemorated the 16 days of activism, World AIDS Day and the International Day of the Girl (IDG) to increase public awareness of gender equality, teenage pregnancies, and HIV
  • Provided meals to 15,544 children in 36 schools affected by drought
  • Empowered 240 pupils in school health clubs as change agents through ASRHR training and safe practices education
  • Trained 293 parents/caregivers on positive parenting. The training sessions emphasized nurturing, empowering, and non-violent parenting methods.
  • Two mobile clinics were done in collaboration with the Department of Health Services reaching 1027 community members (419M & 608F). The comprehensive services provided, including deworming, vitamin A supplementation, immunization, and treatment of illnesses

  • Capacity Building – Trained health care workers in LIVES models as first responders to GBV
  • Facilitate HCWs to attend court proceedings to adduce expert witness evidence
  • Conducted refresher training on child safeguarding
  • Conducted GBV TA and supportive supervision
  • Conducted facility-level focused mentorship sessions to strengthen the completion of GBV services
  • Supported facility /community GBV Committees (5 facilities)
  • Held School GBV prevention interventions (14 schools)
  • Supported GBV thematic events (IWD, 16 DOA, WAD)
  • Trained 30 YACH and peer educators from youth-led organizations on advocacy and the budget-making process
  • Sensitization of youth peer educators in Pwani University on providing information on integrated health services AYPs on the One2one digital platform
  • Sensitization of healthcare workers, peer educators and
  • HIV self-test kits distribution among AYPs in targeted outreaches

  • Establishment of Kaloleni and Kilifi south PCNs
  • Development of the Kilifi County PMCTC framework
  • Support for the establishment of 14 new CHUs
  • Training of 25HCWs on BFCI
  • Training of HCWs on VAS/D
  • Support for assorted activities in the PCNs: 3 MDT clinics in RABAI, household mapping/registration, and sensitizations in Kaloleni and Kilifi south PCNs
  • 167 HCWs trained on BFCI, 2335 CHPs trained on CBFCI and positive parenting, A total of 2500 NICHE beneficiaries were registered
