𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨, 𝐈𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬.
Today, Hon. Peter Mwarogo, CECM of the Department of Health and Sanitation Services received a donation of equipment from the Rotary Club of Salerno, Italy. The equipment will be used for conducting orthopedic surgeries at Kilifi County Referral Hospital.
Dr. Rosella Cirillo, a hand Surgeon from the Rotary Club of Salerno, Italy, accompanied by Mr. Mahmoud Noorani, President of the Rotary Club of Mombasa, presented the equipment to Hon. Peter Mwarogo. Also present at the occasion were Dr. Malik-ul-Ashtar, Medical Superintendent and Dr. Arif Baradia, Orthopedic Surgeon –
Kilifi County Referral Hospital.
The equipment worth Ksh 2.1 Million includes a pneumatic torniquet, surgical loupes, fine instruments for hand surgery and malleable lead hand retractor.
According to Dr. Baradia the donated equipment is crucial for enhancing fine orthopaedic surgical procedures of the hand as well reducing intraoperative blood loss. Such equipment is only found in high end private hospitals in our region.
Mr. Noorani said the Rotary Club of Mombasa and the Rotary Club of Salerno have joined hands to jointly implement projects in Kenya and Kilifi County in particular hoping that this will be an annual event.
Hon. Mwarogo thanked the Rotary Club of Salerno, Italy and the Rotary Club of Mombasa for the generous donation and thanked Dr. Baradia for enabling this partnership.
