National Jigger’s Day

Clients
Today, Kilifi County participated in the nationwide observance of National Jigger’s Day with lively festivities held at Bungu Primary School, Kilifi South. The theme of the day was: Jigger Awareness and Elimination is Our Responsibility.
The occasion was graced by the presence of our esteemed First Lady, Suzanne Mung’aro, who serves as a patron in the campaign against the “Funza” menace in Kilifi County.
Tunguasis, commonly referred to as Jigger infestation (Funza), is a debilitating skin condition caused by female sand fleas burrowing into the skin. With a prevalence rate ranging from 1-10 percent, it significantly impacts numerous schools and villages, particularly in Kilifi South, Kaloleni, Rabai, and Magarini.
The County Government, in partnership with the Department of Health and its collaborators, remains resolute in its dedication to addressing the jigger issue, as outlined in Governor H.E Gideon Maitha Mung’aro’s Manifesto. Our objective is to convert this public health challenge into a resolved matter through localized strategies and cooperative endeavors, thereby ensuring the welfare of our residents.
