Medical Specialists Opportunity

Consulting
Over 200 patients today had the opportunity to be served by medical specialists from Malindi Subcounty Hospital at their rural health center in Baolala during a special outreach organized by the Department of Health to launch the Malindi Subcounty Primary Care Health Network.
The outreach was conducted by a Multi-Disciplinary Team comprised of specialists, including obstetrician-gynecologists, ENT specialists, orthopedic surgeons, dentists, mental health professionals, internal medicine physicians, general surgeons, diabetic foot care specialists, ophthalmologists, nurses, nutritionists, pharmacists, occupational therapists, and others.
The Department of Health has organized the health facilities in the county into Primary Health Care Networks, with hospitals serving as hubs and primary health care facilities as spokes. The county has identified 31 Multi-Disciplinary Team service sites that will serve clusters of spokes linked to them.
The hubs will act as referral facilities for the spokes. Every month, Multi-Disciplinary Teams from the hubs will conduct outreaches at 31 primary health care facilities/spokes to increase access to specialized care for people in rural areas within their reach.
“This way, we are accelerating and increasing Universal Health Coverage,” says Edward Mumbo, the Kilifi County Head of the Division of Primary Health Care.
Baolala is one of the 31 spokes in the county and will serve as a center where clients from the surrounding neighborhood can receive primary healthcare services such as nutritional counseling, eye care services, laboratory services, immunizations, cervical cancer screening, non-communicable diseases screening, care for obstetric high-risk mothers, surgical outpatient services, orthopedic care, ear, nose, and throat care, and dental care services, among others.
By bringing these services to the community monthly from the hubs, travel costs and time spent by residents will be significantly reduced, hence the theme, “Leaving No One Behind.”
This effort demonstrates the Department of Health’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage for the people of Kilifi, aligning with His Excellency Hon. Gideon Mung’aro’s manifesto to prioritize the health and well-being of Kilifi residents.
