Today, Hon. Peter Mwarogo, CECM of Kilifi’s Department of Health, in conjunction with the County Health Management Team, received a donation of medical kits from our esteemed partners, Amref Health Africa in Kenya. The generous donation included 50 disposable surgical gowns and 50 intravenous (IV) drips to aid in the ongoing month-long hydrocele (Mapumbu) surgeries at Marafa Sub County Hospital, commencing on 11th September 2024.
Under the leadership of Dr. Abdiqan Alin, Dr. Morris Buni, and Dr. Hashim, the medical team has effectively completed 30 surgeries out of the targeted 150 patients since the initiation of this endeavor.
The surgeries will persist throughout the month with the objective of alleviating the burden of hydroceles in Magarini Subcounty. This important initiative has been made feasible through the operationalization of Marafa Hospital, in accordance with the governor’s dedication to enhancing healthcare delivery and ensuring proximity of services to the community. This allows patients to access treatment in Marafa, diminishing the necessity to travel to Malindi, in accordance with the principles of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), which prioritizes making healthcare services more attainable and economical in rural regions.
Marafa Sub County Hospital now proudly offers specialized services, encompassing gynecology, pediatrics, obstetrics, and medical officer consultations. The facility hosts pediatric clinic services every Tuesday with Dr. Malika Angore, as well as Obstetric Gynecology clinics and surgeries every Tuesday and Thursday. We urge the residents of Magarini to take full advantage of these services and leverage the improved healthcare facilities now accessible in their community.
We express our gratitude to our partners, Amref, for their continuous assistance in delivering accessible and affordable healthcare to the citizens of Kilifi. We remain resolute in our commitment to furnishing quality healthcare to all.
