This week, the Kilifi County Department of Health is hosting a workshop called Women in Health and Economic Equity and Livelihood during Emergency Preparedness and Response (WHEELER). The workshop is focused on analyzing data to develop gender-inclusive strategies aimed at protecting women healthcare providers (HCPs) during pandemics and other health crises.
The main objective is to provide training on basic qualitative data analysis and establish a cohesive thematic coding system to amalgamate insights from various perspectives, including healthcare workers, policymakers, and academics.
Funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) under the Women Rise initiative, the WHEELER study is being conducted by the Aga Khan University’s Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health, East Africa (CoEWCH, EA), in collaboration with the University of Manitoba, as well as the counties of Kilifi and Mombasa. We anticipate that this research will have a positive impact on the lives of women healthcare providers in the area.
