In 2023, Kilifi County has made significant progress in the field of Sanitation and Hygiene. During the 6th Quarterly Kenya Sanitation Alliance Review meeting, the County received two important awards:
1. The County was recognized as the top-performing County in Kenya Sanitation Week (KSW) 2023. This recognition was given for the County’s exceptional dedication and achievements in promoting sanitation and hygiene practices within the community, contributing to a healthier environment during the annual KSW. The County was also able to retain the trophy it had won the previous year.
2. The County was acknowledged for its outstanding commitment to creating a supportive environment for sanitation by engaging in advocacy, resource mobilization, and leadership.
Last year, Hon. Gideon M. Mung’aro, signed a declaration pledging support to the Kenya Sanitation Alliance (KSA) through resource allocation for sanitation and hygiene activities. The ultimate goal is to be officially declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) by December 2024.
