Today, the Hon. Peter Mwarogo welcomed a delegation from the Health Electrification and Telecommunications Alliance (HETA), LEMA Off-grid, and USAID at Malindi Sub-County Hospital.
Their purpose was to explore alternative electricity sources for healthcare facilities and discuss improving digital connectivity in the county. Challenges like unreliable power access, high energy consumption, and limited digital access hinder fair healthcare services in our communities. Exploring affordable renewable energy options like solar power and implementing Electronic Medical Records (EMR) are key steps in closing service gaps, improving healthcare access, and addressing climate change.
During the visit, the guests also visited Gongoni Health Centre, where a solar system is being piloted to supplement the main electricity grid, especially in the maternity ward.
These partnerships between public and private sectors greatly aid the department’s goal of providing fair and top-quality healthcare services to our communities.
