The Kilifi Department of Health, in conjunction with H.E. Flora Chibule, Deputy Governor, has partnered with the Kenya Association for the Welfare of People with Epilepsy (KAWE) and the Chandaria Foundation to inaugurate a groundbreaking epilepsy facility at Malindi Sub-County Hospital.
In Kilifi county, epilepsy has been plagued by stigma for a significant period, resulting in numerous untreated and undiagnosed cases, leaving a considerable portion of our populace without adequate care. According to the latest data from KAWE, there are currently around 6,000 reported cases of epilepsy in Kilifi, with many diagnosed individuals seeking treatment elsewhere at a substantial cost.
This initiative aims to provide closer access to epilepsy treatment, addressing the healthcare requirements of the local community. Future investments in the facility are being planned, in accordance with our objective of ensuring accessible healthcare for all Kilifi residents.
