Climate-Mental Health Study

Consulting
Climate change represents a significant and urgent concern, impacting various facets of our daily lives, including environmental conditions that can have implications for both our physical and mental health.
In this particular instance, the Kilifi Department of Health collaborated with the University of Nairobi to conduct a study within Kilifi County. This collaboration was conducted with a strict adherence to ethical guidelines and approved research protocols. The primary objective of the study was to assess the effects of environmental exposures on the mental health of perinatal adolescents, with the ultimate goal of devising effective strategies for mitigating these impacts.
Under the leadership of Dr. Manasi Kumar from the University of Nairobi, the research team convened to discuss and seek feedback on the study entitled “Mapping Impact and Developing Mitigation Strategies for Climate Change-Mental Health Nexus in the Context of Vulnerable Adolescent Populations in Kenya” (MASK), funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and Fogarty International Centre.
In summary, the process of mapping the influence of climate change on mental health and crafting appropriate mitigation measures has the potential to significantly enhance the well-being and resilience of vulnerable adolescent populations in Kilifi County. Ultimately, these efforts can contribute to the establishment of healthier and more empowered communities.
