The Department of Health in Kilifi is currently implementing a training program on the Baby Friendly Community Initiative (BFCI) for healthcare professionals as part of the up scaling of the NICHE program in Kilifi North, Rabai, and Malindi sub-counties.
This program is crucial as healthcare workers play a vital role in encouraging and supporting optimal maternal and infant feeding practices in our healthcare facilities. Through BFCI training, they gain the knowledge and skills necessary to educate mothers on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, and other important aspects of infant and young child feeding.
By emphasizing key components such as maternal nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and specialized feeding for sick children, empowering our healthcare workers with BFCI training will establish a solid foundation for sustainable and accessible healthcare interventions, ultimately improving the well-being of our communities.
