The Kilifi Department of Health and Sanitation Services today welcomed a distinguished delegation from the African Union Mission Nutrition taskforce at the Vishakani Dispensary.
The purpose of their visit was to gain insights into the Nutrition Improvements through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) program, understanding its implementation and the dynamics between the community and healthcare facilities.
Vishakani was selected for its exemplary performance in implementing NICHE, showcasing its impact through a tour of the dispensary and interactions with Community Health Workers and beneficiary families.
The NICHE program in Kenya is dedicated to enhancing child nutrition during the pivotal first 1,000 days of life, providing cash transfers and nutrition counseling for pregnant women and children under 24 months old. Its objectives include reducing malnutrition rates, fostering overall health, positive parenting and supporting early childhood development.
Piloted collaboratively by the Government of Kenya, UNICEF, and partnering organizations, NICHE integrates financial assistance with educational initiatives to establish sustainable dietary habits and advance community health outcomes.
