Today, the Kilifi Department of Health and Sanitation Services, in partnership with World Vision, organized a Project Close-Out Forum for the Mother to Mother Project.
The event, attended by H.E Flora Chibule, Deputy Governor of Kilifi County, celebrated the achievements that resulted from this collaboration in transforming the health systems of the county. Since April 2020, Kilifi County, in partnership with World Vision Kenya and the donor Shionogi, has been implementing the Bamba Mother to Mother (M2M) project in Bamba and Jaribuni wards, Ganze sub-county. The aim of this project is to improve access to maternal, newborn, and child health services, health facility and water infrastructure, healthcare worker capacity, and community level structures for promoting maternal and child healthcare services.
During the implementation of this project, three fully equipped maternity wards and three laboratories were constructed in Midoina, Rimarapera, and Jaribuni. Additionally, a solar power system was installed at Bamba sub-county hospital, over 90 healthcare community promoters were trained, 54 mother to mother (M2M) support groups were formed and trained on irrigation, poultry, and kitchen garden farming, and 6000-liter water tanks were installed in 14 primary schools.
As the project comes to a close, we are proud to announce that over 15,000 beneficiaries have been empowered.
We are committed to further strengthening our collaboration to initiate more meaningful programs for the benefit of the people in the other sub-counties across Kilifi. Comprehensive transition processes, such as community handover events and the establishment of sustainable community structures, have been initiated to ensure the continuity of the achieved gains for lasting impact. We would like to express our gratitude for the significant impact this project has had on the Ganze community and its surrounding areas.
