The Kilifi County department of Health and Sanitation Services is actively implementing the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) approach to eliminate Open Defecation. A crucial aspect of this approach is establishing strong partnerships, collaboration, and advocacy among stakeholders.
Today, the department organized an advocacy meeting with members of the Kilifi County Assembly Health Committee to discuss the County’s Sanitation Situation and the progress made towards achieving the department’s goal of being Open Defecation Free (ODF) by December 2024.
During the meeting, the honorable members were familiarized with the standard CLTS process. They expressed their commitment to supporting the department by creating a conducive environment and ensuring the availability of allocated resources for implementation.
In attendance were Dr. Sultan Matendechere, the Deputy Director General of Health, Dr. David Mulewa, the Chief Officer of Health and Sanitation Services, Dr. Hassan Leli, the County Director of Health and Sanitation Services, and Mr. Daniel Kurao, the Chairman of the National Sanitation Caucus technical working group.
This meeting was made possible by the collaborative partnership between the County Government of Kilifi, USAID, and UNICEF.
